THE DUST COMPANY: The story behind the leather

Newly emerging fashion brand, THE DUST COMPANY sits down with The Clothing Lounge to discuss inspiration, motivation and dedication behind their sustainable leather brand.  

 

Tell me a little bit about THE DUST COMPANY and when you first started this business?

 

My family has been in the leather business since 1972. I started THE DUST COMPANY in 2016 to make leather bags, I was looking for a new leather bag and I could not find one that I liked. So, I had decided to make one myself.

What was your inspiration behind your designs?

Our inspiration is based on the vintage side of the fashion, something that look ageless and that can breathe quality over the time. As an independent brand, a lot of our unique products are owned by musicians and artists.

What are the challenges of running an independent label?

When you do your job with passion and dedication every day, you can face any difficulties with strength.

 

 Which part of the creative process do you enjoy the most and least?

Creating products is in my DNA I always loved this part of this business. It helps that I am a musician too.  

     

Do you have a mentor?

No, I don’t.  

 

 How long did your latest collection take to create?

To create a collection, it normally takes 1 to 2 months.

What are your future goals for THE DUST COMPANY?

Our plan is to grow in a good way and become a well-established, conscious brand worldwide.

 

Which pieces do you think everyone should have in their wardrobe?

What I think every man or woman must have in their wardrobe is something that is unique, timeless and sustainable.  So, it can become more beautiful over the years. The qualities we believe, as an emerging designer brand that we have.
