Alenkie: An Argentinan Eco-Warrior Brand

Focused in making the world a better place by benefitting both people and planet, Alenkie creates unique garments made from recycled ocean bottles as well as fishing nets. Therefore, the brand truly is a sustainable force for change, using 100% organic fabrics and recycled materials all the while creating clothes which make the wearer look and feel good. The future is now with Alenkie.

My name is Nana. I started drawing crazy designs as a kid when I lived in Armenia.

I studied German in Armenia where I graduated as a Translator in 2010, then I went to Germany to do a Master in Linguistics which I finished in 2012. In 2018 I studied Sustainable Design in Argentina, where my brand was finally born in December of 2019.

I believe that in the world of sustainable fashion design, I was able to find a creative way in my lifestyle to give my contribution towards a better world. This was the reason behind why I started "Alenkie".

The slow fashion movement is my inspiration and what makes my brand special is that it's totally cruelty-free and gentle to touch with all skin types.

I'm focused on designing clothes made with recycled ocean bottles, fishing nets, organic cotton and tencel (lyocell) to make the world a better place.

When and where did you first begin?

I decided to make my dreams come true on a rainy day in Buenos Aires. I was sitting in a small coffee shop, and with my childhood dream I finally decided to create something singular and beautiful for the world.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

My design inspiration comes from the Japanese culture and minimalism (Shapes, colors, textures, nature.) All of these features are an inexhaustibles source of inspiration.

Describe your brand in 3 words.

Minimalism, Zero waste, antiespecism

What is the most difficult aspect of running your own label?

It is SOOOO difficult to start a fashion brand, it’s so costly if you try to make it in independent.  Therefore, platforms like “The Clothing Lounge” can truly make a difference.

Which part of the creative process do you enjoy most, and least?

I really enjoy designing sketches, creating patterns and drawing hand-made paintings on t-shirts.

Do you have a mentor?

Nature is my guide.

How long did your latest collection take to create?

The latest collection is “Vientos” and it took me 2 months to create.

What are your future plans?

I hope to release my own sustainable fabric made with recyclable waste from the Argentinian coast.

Which pieces do you think everyone should have in their wardrobe?

The basics like Ame, Ikigai or Flor de Cerezo. These are pieces that everyone should have in their wardobe.

What attracted you to The Clothing Lounge

The brands you work with and design in general. I think it’s a successful project. One of the biggest things for the Clothing Lounge it’s entering the menswear market, together we can activate male shoppers.  Moreover, you frequently use Instagram to promote designers and show inspiration for collections. It’s amazing. Thank you!
