Designer Interview: HEIKE NY

A New York based brand, HEIKE NY, is a Fashion Label that stands for quality clothing with clean architectural lines combined with intricate cuts and engineered details. This advanced contemporary label called HEIKE NY was launched in 2014, adding a layer to the designer’s impressive oeuvre.

Exclusive fabrics from Italy and Japan coupled with specially selected color stories complete Heike’s signature, which is inspired by contemporary art, music and architecture, namely Bauhaus theory. Soft shapes and sculptural elements retain their raw forms, always executed effortlessly. Pieces are often multi-use, multi-purpose and highly versatile, focusing on construction and deconstruction,

The brand’s interplay of hard and soft has been celebrated in international fashion magazines and worn by celebrity clients like Halle Berry, Kate Hudson, Shakira, and Mandy Moore.

Heike honed her design skills at Central Saint Martins, London, graduating with honors, then worked for notable fashion labels Soprani, Krizia and Trussardi in Milan, and Searle in New York. She also consulted on Work and Friends, a Yohji Yamamoto subsidiary collection in Tokyo.

 

 

1. Who is behind this brand? Please tell us more about yourself and the Brand Story?

HEIKE NY’s creative director is Heike Jarick. She is a German-born, London-schooled, Milan-trained and globally focused fashion designer living in New York City.

Heike Jarick was born in Germany and she studied in London but she considers herself a world citizen due to having lived in different places around the world. From England, she moved to Italy and now lives in the US. After working in the fashion industry for some years she decided to start her own brand, HEIKE NY, to be able to show to the world her European creative roots blended with the Urban inspiration of New York.

 

2. What inspired you to start this journey? What makes your brand stand out?

 

HEIKE NY is a fashion label designed made in NYC in luxurious fabric qualities often exclusively developed from around the globe. We are a small studio and that gives us the chance of curating every detail and every step of the process: from the designs to the production, and the most important for us: our customers. We are also very aware of sustainability using high quality and technological fabrics, producing under demand and designing seasonless, ageless, and timeless pieces. The artistic inspirations are often rooted in the Bauhaus aesthetic and functionality.

 

3. What is your biggest achievement so far, your best work?

Having gained momentum of independence from Retail and selling directly to the customer is a great achievement. Cofounded Harlem makers collective, women based collaboration of organizing pop up retail events in a classy spacious uptown Gallery environment.

 

4. Where do you see your brand in the next 5 years?
