A Growing CVLCHA: TCL Meets the Aussie Jewellery Designer

"Make your mark in the world and look beautiful doing it."

- the CVLCHA philosophy

We ventured (figuratively, sadly) to Australia to meet CVLCHA, the continent's hottest new jewellery and accessories designer, who uses recycled and responsibly sourced materials to bring us hand-crafted, unique, and timeless pieces. Unable to overcome our pleasure in such an elegant world of classic-meets-contemporary style, we sat down to find out more.

When and where did you first begin?

I've always had a love for art and design from a very young age. Ever since my early years—really, for as long as I can rememberI've had a pencil or paint brush in my hands.

I've always had a desire to start my own jewellery and accessories brand. So, in 2015, I took a leap of faith and started CVLCHA. It was definitely a turning point for me. Having years of ideas and concepts pour out and seeing them come to fruition in the pieces brings me so much joy. I truly love what I do!

Where does your design inspiration come from?

CVLCHA stands for so much more than unique, timeless pieces. My inspiration comes from the many people in my life; cultural influences, the elements of nature; the meaning and location behind precious gemstones, and the world of the arts. Many times I have an idea where I grab my sketchbook and just start sketching away.

What is the most difficult aspect of running your own label?

The limitations on international travel over the past two years have been challenging.

Not being able to see my manufacturers and collaborate in person is difficult. You want to be able to touch and feel the materials and experiment in the moment so you can see the product brought to life.

This has impacted the entire production timeline, from the design phase to samples, production, and shipping. It can be overwhelming as it's out of your control, but you have to stay focused on the end goal.

Describe your brand in three words.

Timeless, bold, and unique.

Which part of the creative process do you enjoy the most, and the least?

I enjoy every aspect of the creative process. Seeing my vision come to fruition into actual pieces brings such excitement, especially when I see my beautiful customers wearing my pieces.

Do you have a mentor?

I wouldn't say I have a dedicated mentor, but in saying this, I surround myself with a network of incredible individuals where we all empower and learn from one another naturally. It's also important to ask lots of questions and seek advice from others.

How long did your latest collection take to create?

My last collection took approximately six months from design concept to manufacturing.

What are your future plans?

My plan is to have CVLCHA in department stores ... worldwide! I would love to have CVLCHA become involved with a charity supporting women and children.

Which pieces do you think everyone should have in their wardrobe?

You can't go wrong with a good pair of jeansthey last forever! A staple blazer is a must, a classic white T, a killer pair of heels teamed with timeless CVLCHA pieces, of course!

What attracted you to The Clothing Lounge?

They provide a platform specifically for creative designers, all in one place, which allows designers to showcase their amazing designs. It's like a small community supporting each other.
