This collection is inspired by identity, categorisation and mass production. Joseph used unusual and unwanted found objects and deconstructed them to explore the contrast between the inside and the outside. By working with either the texture or the shape of components from the objects, he redesigned and created wearable masculine men’s jewellery.
Having previously studied construction, Joseph utilises his knowledge of computer-aided design creating designs that are machine cut and hand finished using the traditional technique of heat tempering. Joseph manipulates the colour of stainless steel to create unique one off colour variations in each piece, giving each its own identity.
Alongside each piece of jewellery, Joseph gives the wearer an insight into how it has evolved from a found object to a piece of work; this includes the date of when the object was found, when and where in the world is was originally produced and how the component has been given a new identity in the form of wearable jewellery.
