RACHEL COMEY: AN ECLECTIC NEW YORK BRAND

Rachel Comey is what you expect effortlessly cool girls to wear in New York.
Rachel Comey herself is an American fashion designer founder of the eponymous brand.

Comey was born in Hartford, Connecticut in the United States. She graduated from the University of Vermont where she focused on Asian studies, printmaking, and sculpture.

In 1997 she moved to New York. It was during that time that she started designing clothes. It was first for her then boyfriend who was in a band. She made his on-stage costumes. However, her career truly started in 2001, when her designs caught the attention of a stylist friend. Comey was commissioned to make two hand-painted shirts for David Bowie. In September of the same year, she launched her label with a menswear collection. In 2004, she introduced a womenswear collection as well as a ready to wear collection. Last year, she added a unisex collection.

Her training as a sculptor can be seen in the designs. The silhouettes are bold and innovative whilst the pattern and the textures are eclectic and colourful. Her designs are inspired by New York's music scene. Her designs evoke a laid-back femininity. For each collection, Rachel has a conversational approach to her designs. She tries to answer to what it means to wear and think her clothing.

Last but not least, her Instagram is an amazing place visually. It's a mixture of patterns, designs, and clothes. She features famous people wearing her designs such as Michelle Obama, but she also posts about important subjects and her designs. She often posts promotional photos to show her collections. From time to time we can see a model who is older than those we are used to seeing.

We can't wait to see what is next for Rachel Comey!
