“Travelling plays a huge role in inspiring me” Vallari Kaushik on her SS20 collection, fashion and more
Inspired by travel, a rendezvous with fashion in Italy and sensibility rooted in Indian tradition, Vallari Kaushik, in a chat with the clothing Lounge takes us through her process of design…
When and where did you first begin?
My creative talent was scouted by Istituto Marangoni in 2017 when I was given a scholarship for my Master’s, in the city of Art and Architecture, Florence, Italy. During my Master’s course at the university, I was able to work on projects with brands like Stefano Ricci, Orciani and Ermanno Scervino. My Indian sensibility of textile and surfaces gained unique credibility during my project with Stefano Ricci.
Where does your design inspiration come from?
Travelling plays a huge role in inspiring me, however my Indian roots have always held me close enough. My collections are a fusion of the experiences I gain by travelling to different places across globe and Indian hand craft skills.
The Ancient art and Architecture of Rome has been the inspiration for the SS20 collection namely- The cobblestone streets of Rome, Elaborate wood crafted doors and door knobs, Artworks in Sistine Chapel by Michael Angelo. The collection has Signature Timeless and Dream prints on traditional textiles of India. Luminous motifs picked from streets of Rome such as Lion head door knob & Angels are crafted into western silhouettes. The comfort-wear collection has Robes, Camisoles, Travel Coordinates, Jumpsuit’s and Dresses.
