Dress designer and founder, Ilona Matsour, opens up about her luxury feminine brand, the motivations behind her work, and EVEN her favourite limited edition piece.

When and where did you first begin?

My journey started when I quit working for one of the biggest European online fashion platforms. Though the job was interesting, my freedom to work creatively was limited and that eventually became very frustrating. That’s why, in 2016, I decided to launch my own brand in Berlin.

Where does the majority of your design inspiration come from?

Nature and the sheer beauty of this planet is my greatest source of inspiration.

Describe your brand in 3 words.

Elegant, feminine and, hand crafted.

What is the most difficult aspect of running your own label?

Setting up production and the logistics which meet our requirements.

Which part of the creative process do you enjoy most, and least?

I enjoy the whole creative process as long as it maintains innovation.

Do you have a mentor?

I’ve never had a mentor but I take on board the opinions of my parents, family and friends.

How long did your latest collection take to create?

3 months.

What are your future plans?

We want to become an internationally recognised brand.

Which pieces do you think everyone should have in their wardrobe?

In my latest collection, there is a cocktail dress called “Fabiola”- it has a gorgeous striking flower print which is both bold and beautiful. I received so many compliments when I wore it the first time at a very important event. That’s what fashion is for me, it’s not just a piece of clothing but so much more. It’s an entire experience.
